2014

4/1/14 – Wine & Spirits Magazine
90 Points – 2009 Olive Hill Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
“A great rib eye wine, this balances its sweet, plump blueberry tones with an impressive tannin density that seems to absorb the wine’s heady alcohol, making it feel serious rather than just massive. It holds together with air and can stand some time in the cellar.”

4/1/14 – Wine Enthusiast
87 Points – 2011 Silver Label Cabernet Sauvignon

2/27/14 – Dan Berger’s Vintage Experiences
Wine of the Week – 2011 Silver Label Cabernet Sauvignon
“The 2011 red wines from California’s North Coast are not beloved by many wine publications because the wines were generally a bit lighter and more elegant based on the cold weather and a late rain. This wine is a classic example of why those other reviewers are wrong. The aroma is bright and varietal (!), the tannins appropriate to a dinner wine, and the overall flavors are lovely. Often seen under $20, and at that a bargain!”

1/13/14 – San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition
Best of Class – 2010 Sonoma Valley Zinfandel
Silver – 2010 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
Silver – 2009 Olive Hill Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

1/1/14 – California Grapevine
87 Points – 2011 Silver Label Cabernet Sauvignon
“Medium ruby; fragrant, black cherry fruit aroma with hints of cassis and green olive; medium-full body; somewhat simple, currant and dark cherry flavors with light herbal notes; medium-full tannin; lingering aftertaste.”

2013

12/30/13 – Wine Advocate, Robert Parker, Jr
91 Points – 2010 Olive Hill Estate Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon
“Made from the estate’s nest lots and vineyard parcels, possesses a similar nearly opaque dark ruby/purple color as well as chewy black currant fruit, cedarwood, licorice and well concealed oak. Savory, with slightly ner-grained tannins… this strong effort admirably displays what Cabernet Sauvignon can achieve in the Sonoma Valley. Drink it over the next decade”
90 Points – 2010 Olive Hill Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
“Offers a big sweet nose of creme de cassis and black cherries, a medium to full bodied mouthfeel, and outstanding texture as well as richness. One of the most impressive Cabernet Sauvignons from B.R. Cohn in a number of years, it should drink well for a decade or more.”
87 Points – 2010 Olive Hill Estate Zinfandel
“Spicy, peppery 2010 Zinfandel Olive Hill Estate Vineyards is medium bodied with attractive briery fruit. It should be consumed over the next 3-4 years.”

12/13/13 – Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Uncorked International Wine Competition
Double Gold – 2009 Olive Hill Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
Silver – 2010 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
Silver – 2010 Sonoma Valley Zinfandel

12/12/2013 – California Grapevine
88 Points – 2009 Olive Hill Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
“Medium-dark ruby; attractive, forward, deep, plummy, spicy, cassis and black cherry fruit aroma with a hint of dark chocolate; full of body; plummy, ripe, extracted, currant and black cherry… lingering aftertaste. Highly recommended.”

12/9/13 – Press Democrat
This Week’s Wine Pick: 2009 Olive Hill Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
“A supple cab with complexity. Aromas and flavors of black currant, cherry, plum and anise. Ripe tannins. Long finish.” -Peg Melnik

12/9/13 – Food & Beverage World
87 Points – 2011 Silver Label Cabernet Sauvignon
“A bouquet of blackberry jam, currants, black cherries, toasty oak, and earth greets the senses. Flavors of blackberry, cherry, and black currant mingle with suggestions of vanilla and anise on the palate. A rich, bold Cabernet with mouthfilling tannins, if you have red meat for Christmas dinner, this is a wine to pair with your meal.”
86 Points – 2011 Silver Label Chardonnay
“Notes of apples, pear, and creamy oak come together on the nose. A sip delivers flavors of tart lemon, green apple, and crisp pear with accents of toasty oak and butter. An easygoing Chardonnay with citrusy highlights, try a bottle with grilled chicken or halibut.”

12/3/2013 – WineReviewOnline.com
90 Points – 2010 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
“B.R. Cohn is generally associated most closely with top-notch Sonoma Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, so Pinot Noir from this producer seems a bit of a stretch. Not so, however, as this beauty from Russian River Valley vineyards demonstrates. With an earthy, forest-floor bouquet and intense aromas of black cherry and strawberry, it is lush and supple on the palate and thoroughly charming.” – Robert Whitley

12/1/13 – Wine Enthusiast
90 Points – 2009 Olive Hill Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
“A fine Cabernet, one of the best from Sonoma Valley. It’s dry and firm in tannins, with complex black cherry, licorice, mocha and cedar flavors. A little softer and broader than a comparably-priced Napa Cab, it’s no less age worthy. Drink now–2020.” —S.H.
90 Points – 2010 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
“This is the winery’s best Pinot since 2007… The raspberry, cherry, cola and sandalwood flavors are housed in a tart, silky texture. Grilled tuna strongly suggests itself.” —S.H.
86 Points – 2011 Silver Label Chardonnay
“Sourced from a host of vineyards, many of them in Sonoma County, this is an intensely dark, weighty Chardonnay with a taste of sour lemon and apple, rich in oak with a clean finish.” —V.B.

12/1/13 – Connoisseur’s Guide to California Wine
87 Points – 2009 Olive Hill Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
85 Points – 2011 Silver Label Cabernet Sauvignon

11/19/13 – WineReviewOnline.com
93 Points – 2009 Olive Hill Estate Cabernet Sauvignon
“Bruce Cohn’s Olive Hill Vineyard has long been one of the sweet spots for Sonoma County Cabernet. Situated on east-facing slopes along Highway 12 between Sonoma and Santa Rosa, this vineyard is located in a unique warm spot in an otherwise cool area for Cab. The result is a lush, rich Cabernet that is easily one of the best in Sonoma when it’s good…  B.R. Cohn pretty much nailed it.” - Robert Whitley

9/28/13 – PinotFile
91 Points – 2010 Russian River Pinot Noir
“Moderate reddish-purple color in the glass. Very aromatic initially, offering bright aromas of Bing cherries, cola and toasty oak. Discreetly concentrated core of nicely ripened Bing cherry fruit with accents of cola, mocha, brown spice and oak flavors clothed in soft, dry tannins. The immensely appealing velvety mouth feel is a clincher. This wine will have wide appeal.”

9/1/12 – Wine Enthusiast
94 Points -2007 Special Selection Cabernet Sauvignon
“Dramatic, powerful flavors of blackberries and cassis liqueur explode in this wine—the classic markers of great Cabernet Sauvignon. At the same time, it shows softly refined tannins that make it firm but drinkable now. With a long, spicy finish, it shows considerable complexity. Best now; it will gradually lose fruit for another 6–7 years.” – S.H.

7/31/12 – Wine Spectator

“The Sonoma Valley-based winery has sourced from all over for this wine and from a wide selection of clones. This wine is attractively priced for its crisp and lively golden delicious apple flavors and smoky oak presence. Richly textured, the finish is all about lemon. ” -v.b.
